• On September 20, 2007, the Illinois Supreme Court issued an important opinion affirming that there is no duty to warn of or prevent criminal actions by a third party. Steve Weiss argued on behalf of the target defendant in the case. He obtained a dismissal order from the trial court, which was affirmed by the First District Appellate Court, before being accepted by the Supreme Court.

• Co-chairman of the IDC’s Insurance Coverage Committee, David Lewin, organized the group’s 2007 Construction Insurance Symposium, co-sponsored by the Society of Illinois Construction Attorneys. The symposium in St. Louis, Missouri provided educational sessions for defense attorneys, insurance professionals, construction management, property owners, developers and design professionals.

• The Illinois State Bar Association has once again invited Panos Topalis to speak at its annual Pleadings and Motions Symposium for Judges and Lawyers in Rend Lake, Illinois on October 12.

• Steve Weiss spoke at the “Basic Skills Seminar” presented by the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel on October 4, 2007

• Jennifer Kay was a featured speaker at Assurance Agency’s Employment Practices seminar on September 25, 2007. Jennifer also spoke on the topic of hiring practices at the July 17 meeting of the greater Chicago chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators.

• On September 5 and 6, 2007, Wes Sunu served as moderator for the American Bar Association’s Minority Counsel Program. The panel addressed “Closing Arguments Boston Style - Can You Present a Close Like the Lawyers on Boston Legal?” The article Wes presented at the conference was also presented at the ABA’s Conference for the Minority Lawyer in June and can be read here or from the link on our Articles page.
